Doctors warn men aged 15 - 35 years are at risk for testicular cancer and suggest methods for self-examination

Dr. Narong. Apikulwanit Deputy Director-General of the Department of Medical Services and Spokesman of the Department of Medical Services said Testicular cancer is a rare cancer and is not one of the 10 common cancers in Thai men. Each year there are approximately 0.7 cases per 100,000 Thai men, or 0.4% of all cancers.

Testicular cancer is usually found between the ages of 15 - 35 years, but there is a chance it can be found at any age, including children to the elderly as well.

At present, the exact cause of the disease is not known. But it is assumed that it is the result of genetic factors, especially a history of having someone in the family, such as a father or brother, who had testicular cancer before. In addition, those whose testicles remain in the pelvis and do not move down into the scrotum are at higher risk than normal men.

How to check for testicular cancer

In severe cases, it has often spread to the lymph nodes in the pelvis or organs in the abdominal cavity or lungs. Treatment requires removing the testicles and removing lymph nodes as well. If it is more than that, chemotherapy or radiation may be given as well. Testicles should be checked regularly. Because if a testicular abnormality is found, the disease will be diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.
